What are the reasons an individual needs to undergo Revision Spine Surgery?

Revision Spine Surgery

Surgery, by definition, often entails certain dangers or risks. In fact, the difficulty of spinal surgery contributes to the danger involved. Everything is as efficient as 95 percent even for the best surgeon, procedures, and results. A back operation can not deliver the desired gain in certain situations, but it is rare.

You may need to undergo spine surgery in Ludhiana again so that you can get rid of these conditions properly.

In general, two primary patient groups are at risk of FBS:

  • Patients whose procedure was never expected to achieve the intended outcome or who were never first suggested as a therapeutic choice.

  • Patients whose treatment was conducted by an imperfect and/or insufficient protocol.

  • Regular smokers are also at higher risk of getting poor results of spine surgery.

Causes of failed back surgery syndrome

There are various factors that contribute to FBS and may be difficult to isolate. These including-:

  • The patient’s medical condition matters a lot, if he is not in good condition, then there is no chance of successful results.

  • Incorrect diagnosis

  • Formation of scar tissue at the surgical site

  • Unnecessary surgery

  • Failure of the spine to properly fuse

  • Recurrence of disc herniation

  • Surgical error causing damage at the site

  • Failure of a spinal implant or hardware

  • Referred pain/surgery was performed at a site that was not actually causing the pain

  • Complications of spine surgery

Some causes are explained below

Pseudoarthrosis

It is not unusual to need revision surgery for patients who have been exposed to a spinal fusion treatment. The orthopedic surgeon freezes two or three vertebrae together during the spinal fusion procedure to avoid displacement in the bones. The organs, such as cages, rods, and screws are kept along with the operating equipment. The bones recover and bond together with time. However if the fractures do not mend until one year following the original operation, an orthopedic surgeon will treat you with pseudoarthrosis. For people smoking or taking corticosteroids the chance of pseudoarthrosis is greater. In these cases, revision surgery is needed.

Recurrent Disc Herniation

The orthopedic surgeon extracts the herniated part of the disk compressing the backbone or nerve root through discectomy. This operation can solve symptoms such as back pain, weakness, numbness, and tingling. Although the disk has not been completely replaced, though, some of the internal content is accessible via the external wall of the disk. This is known as a recurrent disc herniation, and it may trigger the original operation to show complications.
