    How does food affect gout?

    People who are facing the problem, can eat certain food and it will increase the uric acid level in the body. Some of the food which trigger the condition are:

    • Food with high in purines and it is found in the food naturally. With its consumption the body will make uric acid which is like a waste product. In case of healthy people, it is removed from the body effectively. But, for unhealthy people this does not happen which can lead to gout attack.
    • Common foods which trigger gout attacks are red meat, organ meat, alcohol, beer, and seafood.

    Additionally, the sugar-sweetened beverages and fructose also increase the gout risk.

    Research has shown that people who take Vitamin C supplements, soy products, and low-fat dairy products can prevent the problem.

    If the problem is not going away then make sure to consult the doctor for the arthritis treatment.

    Food you should Eat

    Here are some low-purine foods which are safe for people with gout like fruits, legumes, vegetables, nuts & seeds, whole grains like barley, brown rice, and oats, dairy products, herbs & spices, plant-based oils, and dairy products.

    Food you should Avoid

    The main culprit of the gout attack is food with high purine level. Some of the food which you need to avoid are organ meat, fish, seafood, added sugar, yeast, shrimp, crab, haddock, herring, trout, and sugary sodas.

    Alos, avoid the cookies, cakes, and bread as they can increase the uric acid in the body.

    Which food you need to eat in moderation?

    There are some meat which you can eat in moderation. You need to limit its consumption to 115 to 170 grams a few times a week. Your diet can have purines in moderate amounts and you can take 100 to 200 mg per 100 grams.

    • Meats

    Meat which you can eat in moderation are chicken, pork, beef, and lamb.

    • Other fish

    Fresh or canned salmon have lower levels of purines as compared to other fish.
